A brief summary of Alexander the Great
64The son of King Phillip II of Macedon, educated by the philosopher Aristotle, Alexander first led troops at age 18. After his father's death he became king, destroyed the Evil Empire, Persia, and conquered much of the civilized world. In 323 BC, at age 33, he died after heavy drinking. It has been suggested he was poisoned by a rejected gay lover, of which he had many.

Alexander the GAY! Too funny! That he was, and he didn't seem to hide it... but neither did any of them back then! I swear the whole empire were full of bisexual men...hmmm?
The 1956 movie, "Alexander the Great" starring Richard Burton is one of my favorites. Burton never wore high heels. My image of young Alexander, the great conqueror, has been destroyed forever!
I had a friend and co-worker at The Hour newspaper who was fond of sketching some very funny cartoons of his fellow editors -- often wearing high heels and long curly hair. Very funny!

That mental imageof Richard Burton in heels made me ROFL, too. My friend didn't put himself in heels, but nearly everyone else. He claimed he wasn't good at drawing females, but his males in female get-ups sure were funny.

Myra...Thanks for the comment...Yes, homosexuality was quite common in ancient cultures. And not only men...The Greek island of Lesbos in the Aegean comes to mind. Several Roman Caesars wives were known to have female lovers, while their husbands slept with young boys...Athletes were given young men for their pleasure, and captive men were cruelly debased when made to fornicate with animals to a cheering audience of Romans...an acceptable and common practice stated by the vox populi. No wonder Rome fell.

I'm curious; how many different written records do we have that include Alexander?
nicomp....there are many "records" of Alexander that go back to Greek and Roman historians....I take any history with a grain of salt....history is written by the victors, so use that as a criteria for belief....thanks for the comment...
He didnt hide it because at the time is was expected and almost encouraged by academics. I have heard from profesors that homosexual sex was not the same then as it is now. It was supposedly more of a rubbing thing. Just a little historical perspective not a justification. My image of him was also forever marred after watching the movie.

I had not seen that photo of Alexander before and I must say I am taken aback by his appearance. He didn't look as I expected at all.
WTucker...Thanks for the comment and observations...True, Alexander was who he was; a man of his times...Brilliant, decadent, spoiled, and very aggressive... his education at the foot of Aristotle certainly influenced his world view, and probably provided a solid foundation for his massive ego...after his death the Empire disintegrated, leaderless and squabbling amongst his generals...

Hi mega...Thanks for stopping by and commenting...To answer your question, I do consider homosexual activity as aberrant to nature...There is no issue in a homosexual relationship, hence denying a basic imperative of nature: Survival of the species through procreation...
Having said that, I understand that gays may not have any choice in the matter, if indeed it is a natural occurring phenomenon beyond their control...As long as no harm, physical or mental, is projected on myself or my family, I have no problem with these relationships, provided they are kept private and in the bedroom...Most gays know and respect this understanding...its the 10% in-your-face activists that demand status as a protected class and acceptance by society in their challenge to the institution of marriage...I would expect equal treatment under the law for those gay couples that have entered into a lawful contract, that would include all the rights of a married couple...Larry

jet...I don't know if he was gay or not...And even if he was gay, what does that have to do with being brave or loving ones parents..? Heterosexuals do not have a monopoly on bravery or filial love...The truth is, we just don't know with any certainty that he was gay...History is writ by humans, and humans are fallible, fickle, and sometimes fallacious...Perhaps the truth lies somewhere in the middle...it may have been that his culture accepted homosexuality as a part of the norm...so who are we to judge another cultures morality..?
